Wild Ideas: The Biomimicry of Our Public Waters and Wildlands

Join our 2026 Scholar In Residence, Adelheid Fischer, for this engaging presentation on what we can learn from Nature's design solutions.

Nature has already solved many of the challenges we face—controlling pathogens, conserving water, managing temperature extremes or building structures that are strong and durable with a minimum amount of material. In the U.S., there is no greater compilation of solutions than the biodiversity in our public waters and wildlands. Writer and educator Adelheid Fischer explores how our nation’s forests and grasslands, tundras and lakes, deserts and oceans can serve as a creative commons of ideas for generating innovative designs and strategies. Adelheid Fischer is an educator and literary nonfiction writer who focuses on natural history, ecology and the intersections of nature and culture. She is affiliate faculty and an Affiliate Global Futures Scholar at Arizona State University. She is currently serving as Rocky Mountain Conservancy's 2026 Scholar in Residence at Rocky Mountain National Park.
